Interpreting Services

IN OTHER WORDS

One half of the world cannot understand the pleasures of the other.

Court interpreter – simultaneous interpreter – general interpreter

My work as an interpreter usually - but not exclusively - takes place in some kind of legal setting: in various courts and law firms, for the Dutch National Investigation Service and several police forces.

Since 1993, I have travelled abroad with various Dutch examining magistrates and worked as an interpreter in courts, police offices and conference rooms in the United Kingdom, Canada, Pakistan, Bangladesh, the United States, Kenya, South Africa, Italy and Malta. I have also travelled to the United Kingdom and the United States to assist Dutch police officers.

Examples of interpreting activities   -

  • witness hearings by means of video conferencing between the Netherlands and Australia, the United States, Canada and the United Kingdom
  • a two-day visit by Canadian authorities to the Rotterdam Public Prosecutor’s Office. I was asked to assist with the translation/interpretation of legal documents
  • a conference on marketing in Rotterdam and in 2004 a symposium on the empowerment of people with disabilities in developing countries, organised by the Dutch Coalition on Disability and Development in The Hague (in an interpreter’s booth);
  • the official presentation by the Rotterdam town council of the first proposal for the Rotterdam Central Station (for architect William Alsop)
  • seminar Bologna Process (2007) and a conference on the future of tertiary education in the Netherlands (2008) for the Dutch Ministry of Education, Culture and Science (in an interpreter’s booth)
  • Van Heuven Goedhart lecture in the Hall of Knights (2015)
